Schoolboy’s death sparks violence in Uttar Pradesh
October 29th, 2010 - 3:25 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 29 (IANS) A schoolboy was mowed down by a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district Friday, sparking violence as mobs clashed with police, damaged vehicles and blocked a highway to protest the death, officials said.
Demanding the errant driver’s arrest, the protesters damaged the truck and threw bricks at a number of private vehicles along the Banda-Sagar highway.
Satyam Kumar, a Class 10 student of Bansh Gopal Inter College, was crushed to death in Laluani town, some 150 km from Lucknow, by the truck while he was on his way to school on a bicycle.
The truck driver escaped after knocking Kumar down.
“Taking into account the violent demonstrations, additional security personnel have been deployed in the town. The situation is tense but under control now,” police inspector M.P. Tripathi told reporters in Fatehpur.
A search is on to nab the truck driver, police said.
