Saudi woman gets three years for assaulting maid
January 10th, 2011 - 9:56 pm ICT by IANSDubai, Jan 10 (IANS) A Saudi woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting her Indonesian housemaid, a media report said Monday.The unnamed Saudi woman was charged with stabbing, beating and burning with an iron Indonesian national Sumiati Mustafa, 23, the Gulf News reported.
A court in Madina sentenced the woman to three years in prison for abuse, according to Saudi newspaper Okaz.
The case received worldwide attention after of Mustafa was admitted to hospital with broken bones and burns to her face and body.
The accused, however, insisted during her trial that she was not guilty and had nothing to do with the wounds inflicted on her maid.
Mustafa has undergone a number of surgeries, and according to the Indonesian consulate officials, still needs further treatment.
