Dubai, March 18 (IANS) Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara continues to top the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Test rankings while Australia’s Mike Hussey and Ricky Ponting stay second and third behind him. India’s batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar also holds on to his 12th position, but has a chance to move up the ladder when he plays in the India-South Africa series, starting March 26.
While the top 13 places in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen remain intact, England opener Alastair Cook and all-rounder Paul Collingwood have made an upward climb to 14th and 17th spot after their impressive performances in England’s 126-run win against New Zealand in the second Test in Wellington Monday.
In ICC Test ranking for bowling, Muttiah Muralitharan still holds the top spot followed by South African Dale Steyn and Stuart Clarke of Australia.
England pace duo of Ryan Sidebottom and James Anderson too are rewarded for their excellent bowling display against New Zealand, with Sidebottom who took 6-141 rising to a career-high 24th position. Anderson, with match figures of 7-130, also jumps seven places to the 33rd spot.
New Zealand fast bowler Chris Martin has fallen three places to 15th spot while captain Daniel Vettori is in 21st place after dropping two positions.
New Zealand’s Jacob Oram’s fine form with ball in the ongoing Test series against England has leapfrogged him five places to a career-best fifth position among the all-rounders.
