San Bruno, Sep 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The massive fire that broke out at San Bruno yesterday owing to a blast in a gas line underground has destroyed several homes and injured more than 30 people. As per the latest update 3 people have been killed. The fire was initially mistaken by many as a possible terrorist attack and earthquake owing to the deafening blast that preceded it. The regional authorities embarked into rescue and evacuation promptly after the explosion and succeeded in shifting a number of people to safer places. The residents were too shaken to react and some left their homes without caring about their properties. A number of people who have lost their homes in the flames are clueless about their future. Hopefully, the American Red Cross has made an emergency shelter for these evacuated lot.
Melanie Finke a Red Cross representative said that the evacuees will be given shelter as well as food at the emergency shelter. She also added that 100 people have already been accommodated at the shelter and more are expected to be taken in. The Bayhill Shopping center has been made into a shelter as well where some of the fire victims have assembled. Red Cross is now bringing materials like blankets, water, food and cots to the shelters to ensure that the victims can stay well. Basic health care services would also be provided in these shelters.
The Red Cross is also bringing counselors to provide mental support to the victims who have become traumatized at the loss. The residents as one can expect are too shaken up and they are sharing their losses with others.
