Saddam gun may become centerpiece of George W Bush library
July 7th, 2009 - 2:29 pm ICT by ANIWashington, July 7 (ANI): A gun found in former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s foxhole when he was seized by Delta Force special troops in 2003 could become the centerpiece of an exhibition at the George W Bush presidential library in Dallas, Texas. According The Telegraph, the 9mm Glock 18C, presented to then-president Bush by Delta Force agents after their triumphant arrest of the Iraqi dictator, has become one of Bush’s most prized possessions.
He would show it off in the Oval Office to visiting military dignitaries, with the boast “The Delta guys pulled it off Saddam”.
The New York Times has discovered that Bush intends to make it a centerpiece of his presidential library that is being built, at a cost of 200 million dollars on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
The weapon belongs to the US national archives, but Bush has told the paper that he wants to display it prominently in the library, which will be organised around 25 key decisions he took during his eight years in power.
Mark Langdale, the president of the foundation that is being set up in Bush’s name, told the paper that “the gun is an interesting artifact, and it tells you that the United States captured Saddam Hussein and disarmed him literally. How we fit that into the decision to go to war, we haven’t gotten to that point yet.”
When the gun was found it was unloaded.
The library is due to open in 2013. (ANI)
