S. Carolina GOP furiously torpedoing Indian origin Haley’s governorship bid

Washington, June 17 (ANI): Indian origin Nikki Haley’s bid for governor of South Carolina has run into rough weather with the Republican (GOP) establishment reportedly working furiously to torpedo her chances in the June 22 runoff.
According to Politico, GOP Congressman Gresham Barrett has launched a two-week, take-no-prisoners assault to defeat Haley.
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, who came in a distant fourth in the Republican primary, has endorsed Barrett. So has the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
And some of Haley’s State House colleagues are determined to stop Haley, a protégé of incumbent Governor Mark Sanford.
However, national-level Republican leaders, including former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and the Republican Governors Association have pushed hard for Haley.
Both Palin and Romney endorsed her during the primary, and Romney will campaign for her again on Friday.
Haley has a widely acknowledged adversarial relationship with legislative leaders. (ANI)
