Ryder not too keen to take up double-sided batApril 2nd, 2009 - 6:34 pm ICT by IANS
Wellington, April 2 (IANS) New Zealand’s rising star Jesse Ryder said he is not too interested in the double-sided bats invented for hitting reverse sweeps with the back of the bat’s flat surface.
Ryder Wednesday struck a long-term sponsorship deal with Gray Nicolls, leading manufacturer of cricket equipments who are known for their double sided bats.
The company’s Cameron Black said the bats had caused a stir in Australia after David Warner hit Australian team-mate Shaun Tait on to the roof of the Adelaide Oval using the back of the bat. Black said the bat has been passed by MCC.
Ryder, however, is not too keen to use the new equipment.
“I’m not planning to use it. I’m not the best player to be reverse sweeping, so I don’t practise it. But I’ll give it a go in the nets and see how it goes,” Ryder was quoted as saying in Dominion Post.
