Russians building bomb-proof toilets
June 10th, 2011 - 7:54 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMoscow, June 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Russian authorities are constructing bomb-proof toilets in the country’s capital. The toilets are expected to be unveiled later this year. The officials say the mode of the construction will make the basins virtually indestructible.
The project is being constructed by the Moscow State Department of Building Maintenance. An official who is involved in the project told reporters that a bomb placed inside the toilet will not be able to bring the structure down.
Anatoly Ashikhmin said that, “If somebody will leave a bomb inside the lavatory and it explodes, then the toilet won’t be destroyed.”
The basins are going to be made from concretes made from ultra-strong fibers. The concretes are also reinforced with steel and strengthened plastics. The builders believe that the mode of construction will also help prevent the facility from vandals.
Russia is one of the countries where bomb blasts are common. Rebels from Chechnya have carried out attacks in Russia killing several people. A blast at the Domodedovo Airport earlier this year killed about 35 people and marked one of the deadliest attacks carried out by the rebels in Russia.
The construction of the toilets might be a step towards achieving the ultimate aim of protecting Russians against future bomb attacks.
