Russian squirrel’s anti alcoholism ad goes viral on the Internet
December 5th, 2010 - 10:09 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMoscow, Dec 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Russian campaign against alcoholism has got a major boost in the arm because their advertisement featuring a squirrel went viral on the internet. Fortunately the haggard looking squirrel is not a real one, but is an animated character. Some people have also christened it as the ‘demon squirrel’ as it boasts of bloodshot eyes and has a very haggard appearance.
In the advertisement, the demon squirrel suffers from the ‘shakes’ and also speaks about it. He also says that he wants to kill his neighbor’s wife. Towards the end of the commercial he says that, “Are you on the booze yourself? I’ll be seeing you.”
The advertisement campaign has been done in a very clever manner to draw attention to the perils of alcoholism. This is because in Russian lingo, when a drunken person starts to get the ‘shakes’ and starts hallucinating, then it is called as ‘belochka’ or a little squirrel. So this demon squirrel in the advertisement nails the point of the perils of alcoholism very nicely, as it suffers from the ‘shakes’ itself.
Since the advertisement was posted on the Internet, it has gone viral and has already garnered more than 1 million views.
