Moscow, Aug 9 (IANS) Russia will attend an international consultative meeting on Syria to be held in Iran Thursday, according to Russian Foreign Ministry.

Moscow will be represented by the Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan.

“If the Tehran meeting takes place, Russia will be represented at it by its ambassador to Iran,” Xinhua quoted the ministry’s spokesperson Mariya Zakharova telling reporters here Wednesday.

Russia has received an invitation to the forum but on a very short notice, the spokesperson added.

“Moscow will push for immediate end of bloodshed and sufferings of the civilian population in Syria, for a peaceful solution to be reached in the interests of all Syrians through a broad political dialogue, as provided by Kofi Annan’s plan and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” she said.

On Wednesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said the consultative meeting on Syria would be attended by foreign ministers from a number of countries that have influential views on both regional and international issues.

Last Friday, Abdollahian visited Moscow where he held talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
