Russia test fires sub-launched missile
June 28th, 2011 - 10:19 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, June 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia has resumed tests of its Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile, the defence ministry said Tuesday.
The missile carries up to 10 warheads and has a range of over 8,000 km.
It was launched from the Yury Dolgoruky nuclear-powered submarine in the White Sea, ministry spokesperson Col. Igor Konashenkov said.
The launch - the 15th such - was successful “by all parameters”, he said.
Only seven of the previous 14 launches were officially declared successful.
Despite several previous failures - officially blamed on manufacturing faults - the military has insisted there is no alternative to the Bulava.
