Russia regains contact with lost satellite
April 22nd, 2011 - 11:56 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, April 22 (IANS) Russian authorities have re-established contact with a military satellite missing since February, Xinhua reported Friday.
The space forces received telemetric information from the Geo-IK-2 satellite and analysis of the data is currently underway, the Interfax news agency said quoting a defence ministry spokesman.
After studying the data, the ministry will take a decision on the further use of the satellite, the spokesman said.
A Rokot light-class carrier rocket carrying the Geo-IK-2 blasted off Feb 1 from Russia’s Plesetsk launching site, but placed the satellite in a wrong orbit. The defence ministry announced that it had lost contact with the satellite.
