Rushdie wins Best of Bookers award

London, July 10 (IANS) Indian-born writer Salman Rushdie was Thursday named the winner of the Best of Bookers Award for his landmark novel “Midnight’s Children”. Rushdie beat off five other heavyweight contenders from across the world to bag the prestigious 40th anniversary prize for the best of all Booker awards.

“Midnight’s Children”, themed around India’s freedom and partition, is often described as the seminal post-colonial novel of the 20th century.
