Rupert Murdoch to appear in court
July 19th, 2011 - 7:08 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, July 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Embattled media mogul Rupert Murdoch has been dragged to appear before UK lawmakers and answer questions on the phone hacking scandal that has rocked the country.
Rupert’s media empire and ethics have come under the radar ever since the scandal broke out. Along with Murdoch, his son James and former CEO of News International Rebekah Brooks are also expected to appear before the UK MPs.
Murdoch is considered one of the most powerful men in the world mainly due to the number of newspapers, television, radio and news websites that he owns in his empire. The 80-year-old Australian-born remarkably started his empire with just a single newspaper in his native home country. His search for the next big story saw him succeed and spread his empire throughout the world.
Ironically it is the same appetite for the next big story that has shaken the foundation of his empire. The phone hacking scandal has already brought down one of his best selling newspapers, News of the World.
Murdoch has married three times and failed twice. He is currently living with his third wife, Wendi Deng. He has six children and each of them has a stake in his empire. His son, James, is widely believed to be next in line to take over the empire from his father.
