London, Mar 16 (ANI): Despite rumours that either Elton John or James Blunt could be performing at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, the two have announced that they will have just traditional hymns.
During the ceremony the choirs of Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal will be singing, and there will not be any performance by a pop star or opera singer.
St James’ Palace announced that along with the choirs, a Fanfare Team, a group of trumpeters, from both the RAF band and the Household Cavalry will play, as well as the London Chamber Orchestra, which is Britain’s oldest professional orchestra.
“Both Prince William and Miss Middleton have taken a great deal of interest and care in choosing the music for their service, which will include a number of well-known hymns and choral works as well as some specially commissioned pieces,” the Telegraph quoted the Palace as saying in a statement.
“You won’t see any individual performers at the service,” a Palace insider said.
It is not yet known the choice of hymns or music, but Palace insiders have suggested the hymns would be well known ones that all of the congregation could sing along to.
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who in an interview said the music would have a “Scottish feel”, will compose some of the music.
“I think wedding music should reflect what matters to the couple and in William and Catherine’s case, Scotland is very much part of their love story,” he had said shortly after their engagement announcement last November.
The palace said that after the service, guests at the Buckingham Palace reception will listen to music played by Claire Jones, Prince Charles’ official harpist. (ANI)
