Prince William London, May 2 (ANI): The British TV audiences who watched the royal wedding are thought to be the 10th biggest in history, but interestingly, it topped just one episode of television sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’ from 1996, which was watched by 24.4 million.

Some 26.2 million viewers watched Prince William get married to Kate Middleton across BBC1, ITV1, BBC News channel, Sky News and Sky Living.

But despite the high audience numbers, it failed to match the 28.4 million that watched Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s wedding in 1981, reports the Daily Mail.BBC1’s coverage peaked with 19.3 million and averaged 13.4 million between 8am and 1.40pm.

The figure rose to 20 million once news channel ratings and iPlayer views were added on, according to trade magazine Broadcast.

The BBC website crashed as a result of the numbers accessing it and caused it to ‘be slower than normal’. (ANI)
