Royal Canadian Mounted Police shocked to find bears guarding marijuana grow-op
August 20th, 2010 - 2:05 pm ICT by ANIKelowna (British Columbia, Canada), Aug.20 (ANI): Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were recently taken aback when they raided a marijuana grow-op near the tiny town of Christina Lake, and found that it was guarded by a troop of black bears.
According to the Globe and Mail, shocked officers discovered ten bears prowling the property like live “traps” waiting to greet intruders.
The paper quoted RCMP spokesman Corporal Dan Moskaluk as saying that the officers went about their work “cautiously,” but quickly realized the bears were quite mellow.
The docile bears “were essentially large dogs. It was evident that the occupants were feeding the bears dog food. There was no evidence the bears were also being fed marijuana,” he was quoted, as saying.
Police seized between 1,100 and 1,200 marijuana plants and arrested the owners of the property, a man and a woman who Corporal Moskaluk described as being in their late 40s.
The RCMP has recommended that they be charged with cultivating and possessing marijuana. (ANI)
