London, Sep 16 (IANS) A robber in Britain was handed over to police after he revisited the shop he had tried to loot moments earlier — he wanted his favourite coat that had got left behind.

When Anthony Gorman disturbed a meditating Indian-origin shopkeeper Michael Singh, he was dragged around the store, had his gun, balaclava and hoodie-style jacket taken and was chased off empty handed. But the 21-year-old returned minutes later to ‘politely’ beg for his favourite 200-pound coat back, Daily Mail reported.

His return surprised Singh, who asked: “Are you stupid?”

Singh, who moments earlier had a gun pointed at his neck by Gorman, added: “No, you can’t have it. Get out.”

Without his disguise, the robber was recognised by the shopkeeper in Longsight area of Manchester and arrested the same day.

He was jailed Friday for four-and-a-half years after admitting aggravated burglary and possession of an imitation firearm.

Singh said: “I just cannot believe anyone could be so stupid as to ask for his coat back after bungling a robbery. He should have just cut his losses and run.”
