Republican Senate chances dealt a fatal blow by Tea Party

London, Sept.16 (ANI): The Boston-based Tea Party has dealt a potentially fatal blow to the Republicans hopes of recapturing the Senate in the mid-term elections, senior Republicans have warned. The Republicans have got the biggest shock of five senate primary victories in recent months when the anti-tax, staunchly conservative Tea Party activists have selected Right-wing Republicans over more moderate choices. The party has registered victories in Delaware, Alaska, Colorado, Kentucky, New York and Utah.
The result was also a personal victory for Sarah Palin, who endorsed Christine O’Donnell, while the surge in right-wing voting strength immediately increased speculation that the party’s vice presidential candidate in 2008 would seek the party’s presidential nomination in 2012.
Democrats said that the rise of the Tea Party candidates represented a “civil war” in the Republican Party.
Tim Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee said: “I think the message is moderates aren’t welcome. We have a chance to win a race that was going to be extremely difficult for us to win.” (ANI)
