Recession hurts US plastic surgery industry
April 28th, 2010 - 6:29 pm ICT by ANILondon, April 28(ANI): The global economic downturn has affected the plastic surgery industry in America, with a 3 per cent drop in revenue since 2008.
The latest figures from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that breast enlargement, nose jobs, eyelid surgery, liposuction and tummy tucks were all down, with liposuction, been most disappointing.
The top five procedures overall in 2009 were breast augmentation (down 6 per cent); nose reshaping (down 8 per cent); eyelid surgery (down 8 per cent); liposuction (down 19 per cent); and a “tummy tuck,” or the surgical cutting of excess fat on the abdomen and stomach (down 5 per cent).
However, Botox and wrinkle fillers were up 99 per cent since 2000.
Also, facelifts among 55 years old and older has witnessed an increase.
“Interest in cosmetic makeovers is significant and expanding, especially by those seeking solutions to aging and body contouring, especially post-pregnancy,” the Telegraph quoted Tom Seery, president of RealSelf.com, a social media website focused on cosmetic surgery, as saying. (ANI)
