Queen stops sale of intimate letters
December 20th, 2009 - 4:40 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Dec 20 (ANI): Intimate letters that were pulled by the Queen recently from a secret auction included notes from her mother requesting information about mascara and apologising for holding on to a library book.
The Queen’s cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson More had put up more than 40 personal items for auction in Paris but they were removed by Her Majesty, reports the Daily Express.
The letters, worth thousands of pounds, belonged to the early days of the Queen Mother’s courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.
They offer a touching insight into the domestic normality of their lives before they unexpectedly became King and Queen following Edward VIII’s abdication in 1936.
In one note, the Queen Mother asks her sister-in-law Fenella Bowes-Lyon: “Can you remember the name of some wonderful eyelash stuff of yours - Golden something?”
In another, she writes: “Please forgive me for having kept the Masterson so long, I feel so ashamed, and a library book too!” (ANI)
