Queen Elizabeth to pay tribute to 9/11 Ground Zero victims in July
June 9th, 2010 - 4:00 pm ICT by ANILondon, June 9(ANI): Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will visit the former site of the Twin Towers during her North America tour in July to pay tribute to the 2,749 people killed in the terror attack.
The Queen will be given a tour of the site in New York’s Lower Manhattan where the World Trade Center fell on September 11, 2001.
The 84-year-old, accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip- the Duke of Edinburgh, will be on an official eight-day tour of Canada before arriving in the U.S.
The visit will come on the day the Queen gives her first address to the 192 members of the United Nations General Assembly since 1957, The Sun reports. Earlier in November 2005, Prince Charles and Camilla had visited the Ground Zero site and the nearby British Garden of Remembrance, while Prince Harry laid a wreath at the site during a charity polo trip last year.
