Queen celebrates 85th b’day at Westminster Abbey
April 22nd, 2011 - 5:49 pm ICT by ANILondon, April 22 (ANI): The Queen recently celebrated her 85th birthday at Westminster Abbey.
She handed out Maundy money to 85 men and 85 women in a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages, reports the Daily Star.
Buckingham Palace said it was the first time the Queen’s birthday had fallen on Maundy Thursday.
During the ceremony, the Queen handed out purses that were carried on trays held by a Yeoman of the Guard.
Crowds in the sunshine shouted “happy birthday” as the Queen left the abbey, with hundreds of well-wishers waving flags. (ANI)
