London, March 7 (ANI): A new study has revealed that a quarter of Britons lie about their weekend activities in an attempt to impress others.

The survey of 5,000 adults found that more than one in four admitted being economical with the truth when asked by friends or colleagues what they did on their days off, reports the Daily Mail.

Going out on a Saturday night topped the list of activities people pretended they did, followed by visiting friends, going to a dinner party, going out for a romantic meal and taking a mini-break.

Psychologist Corinne Sweet said the survey commissioned by Travelodge revealed a degree of ‘Weekendvy’.

“We don’t want to admit that most of our weekend time is spent trying to catch up with housework, paperwork and lost sleep,” she said.

The findings also showed job pressures were taking their toll, with one in three saying their weekend was becoming an extension of their week because of work commitments.

Around 29 per cent of people admitted they were so exhausted by Friday night that they spent their weekend catching up on sleep.

4 out of 10 adults said they wished they could have more fun at the weekends, while one in ten said they did not get any time for themselves because their weekends were taken up with family commitments.

The study also revealed traditional weekend rituals were not undertaken by everyone, with 23 per cent of adults saying they had a regular Sunday morning lie-in and 21 per cent enjoying a traditional roast dinner every week. (ANI)
