Qualified teams can play their juniors in last group games: UEFA

Innsbruck (Austria), June 15 (Xinhua) UEFA has no objection to teams resting their star players and playing their B teams in their last group matches, UEFA spokesman William Gaillard has said. “It is obvious that an already-qualified team would send their spare players up to the pitch,” said Gaillard Saturday.

He noted that it is understandable that these team would try to avoid the danger of injuries, yellow or red cards by resting their main players.

As of now, the Netherlands, Croatia, Portugal and Spain have all qualified for the second stage quarter-finals by winning both their two opening pool matches.

UEFA, the governing body overseeing the once-in-four-year European football championship, has not stipulated any rules that may forbid “B team” for the last round of group matches, according to Gaillard.
