Quake jolts Philippines
August 30th, 2011 - 7:05 pm ICT by IANSManila, Aug 30 (IANS) A magnitude-7 earthquake hit the Philippines Tuesday but no damage was reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The quake occurred at 2.57 p.m. (0657 GMT), according to Xinhua.
The epicentre was monitored at a depth of 485 km, and 1,406 km southeast of the southern city of General Santos, the institute said.
The Philippines sit in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where continental plates collide, producing frequent quakes and volcanic activity.
