mibneMinneapolis, Dec 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In the wake of the extensive snowfall Minneapolis has been witnessing for the past few days, public schools in the city have been shut down once again. Keeping in view the heavy blizzard, the district officials made the announcement on Monday night that St. Paul and Minneapolis public schools would be shut today in a bid to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the school kids.

While making the announcement, the district officials in Minneapolis reiterated that the decision of keeping the schools shut was taken as the huge pile of snow that has accumulated in the streets might cause the school buses to get late while the kids would have to wait for long hours in the chilly weather conditions. The concerns for the schools in St. Paul were no different with district schools spokesperson Howie Padilla emphasizing that if the schools are not being able to provide on-time regular bus service, there is not point in making the school kids wait for long duration under such favorable weather conditions. Meanwhile, it has also been reported that all the school activities that were lined up in Minneapolis Public Schools for Tuesday have been canceled and it would be taking place at a later date.

The temperatures in the both the cities of Minnesota touched -8 degrees by late Monday with wind chill of -23 degrees during the early part of the day. Over the weekend, Minneapolis and St. Paul were witness to heavy rainfall with 17 inches of snow being dumped in Minneapolis and some of the suburbs getting as much as 21 inches of snow.
