London, Jan 22 (ANI): A broken claret jug listed for auction at 200 pounds is said to be the 1,000-year-old Holy Grail of Islamic antiques worth 5million pounds.
An expert said that the medieval rock crystal water jug, which was snapped up for a bargain 220,000 pounds, was an incredibly rare Egyptian antique.
The jug had been listed at Lawrence’s auction house in Crewkerne, Somerset, at 200 pounds because their experts thought it was a shabby 19th-century French piece.
Even when the bidding shore, the experts contemplated that it was because of the designer box it was stored in.
Neither the seller nor the buyer have been named.
One London dealer said the jug, created for the rulers of Egypt’s 11thcentury Fatimid dynasty, is one of only six.
“I’ve spent my life trying to find one. This may be the biggest sleeper ever on the Islamic art market, the Mirror quoted the dealer, as saying. (ANI)
