Feb 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It came as a shock to the officials of Monroe Correctional Complex when they found the dead body of one of its guards on Saturday night. The law enforcement officials reported that corrections officer Jayme Biendl’s body was found strangled with a microphone cord in the chapel that night. The authorities are of the opinion that the guard was killed by one of the inmates of the prison Byron Scherf, who was trying to escape from there.

Tracey Thompson, Teamsters 117 spokeswoman told a reputed media source that Jayme Biendl previously complained to the union officials that she was the only guard working in the chapel at night. However, she got no response from the correction facility. The workers of the Monroe Correctional Complex found her body dumped on the ground at around 10 pm. On the other hand, at the same time, Byron Scherf, 52, who is serving a life sentence for kidnapping and rape was reported missing. Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said that when the officials found him, he told them that he was planning to escape from the prison but later her changed his mind. Debbie Willis said that Byron Scherf is the prime suspect of the case and the detectives are presently interrogating him.

The law enforcement officials said that there was no sign of sexual assault in Jayme Biendl’s body. The prison guard had a two way radio with an alarm but authorities could not say if she called anyone for any help. However, on Sunday, the entire facility was on lock-down as the officers were busy investigating about the case. Teamsters 117 spokeswoman Tracey Thompson said that the authorities should be more serious about the safety issues of the prison guards.
