Princess Margarets first love was stalked by their love childDecember 18th, 2007 - 3:02 pm ICT by admin
London, Dec 18 (ANI):Princess Margarets first love Peter Townsend, a Royal Air Force Pilot and Battle of Britain hero, was stalked by a forty something old man who claimed to be his secret love child with the Princess.
In a previously unreleased letter it was revealed that three years before Townsends death, Philip Thomas, a Welsh solicitor turned up in January 1992 at the formers French country home, La Mare Aux Oiseaux, just outside Paris.
In the letter the distressed Townsend wrote all the details about Thomas to Sir Martin Gilliat, the Queen Mothers private secretary.
He was quite well-spoken with a slight Welsh accent. He had practised as a solicitor in Swansea (or was it Cardiff), he told me and his name was Philip Thomas and that I might well be his father! I naturally told him I could not discuss Princess Margaret on any account and the conversation, which was brief, turned to Welsh rugby. I gave him a glass of wine and sent him on his way, hoping that I shall not hear further from him, the Daily Express quoted Townsend, as writing in the letter.
Essentially he was asking for Townsends help in getting the House of Windsor to answer his claims to royal blood, writes Tim Heald in his biography of the Princess, Margaret: A Life Unravelled.
Townsend considered Thomas at best a great bore and at worst, possibly dangerous.
He noted that Thomas said he was born in Swansea on April 25, 1956, yet Margaret made an official visit to Port Talbot the following day. And Townsend last saw the Princess only six months before Thomas was born.
It is nonsense for him to suppose that I am his father, he wrote.
Townsends solicitor said, He didnt think there was any chance of having Thomas sectioned under the Mental Health Act and urged him to ask Thomas not to communicate with him again. (ANI)
