Princess Diana London, Mar 4 (ANI): Late Princess Diana’s niece Lady Amelia Spencer is facing a new police probe over claims she covered up for an “accomplice” after an alleged assault at a McDonald’s.

Lady Amelia Spencer, 18, is said to have told cops she barely knew the man who was accused of joining her in the attack, which left a fast food customer unconscious.

But police tracked down John Barbis and found he was a friend of Amelia’s 16-year-old brother Louis on Facebook.

He originally claimed he knew nothing about the incident. Officers are now considering charges of obstructing justice against the pair.

Lady Amelia, daughter of Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, is accused of attacking Ricci Cinti, 27, on December 29 in the drive-through of the restaurant in Cape Town, South Africa, near her home.

She and Barbis, 24, were said to have accused Cinti’s taxi driver of jumping the queue, and Lady Spencer is alleged to have “smacked and kicked” the passenger, who fell and was knocked unconscious.

Lady Spencer and Barbis have appeared before magistrates, and prosecutors are still deciding if she will face assault charges.

“I am confident the charges will be withdrawn,” the Sun quoted her solicitor William Booth as saying. (ANI)
