Princess Diana’s Family Treasures To Go On Auction

reuLondon, Apr 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The family of late Princess Diana is contemplating selling off family treasures with the aim of raising money to tune of 30 million pounds, according to reports. The items which are likely to be sold include paintings, furniture as well horse driven carriages and were part of Princess Diana’s family home in central England where she is known to have spent her childhood days.

Reports have revealed that the items which would be auctioned were part of the Althorp estate and her family’s iconic house in London, the Spencer House. One of the highlights of the items which would be going under the hammer include a significant painting by Peter Paul Rubens known as “A Commander Being Armed For Battle” which is alone expected to raise a whopping 8 to 12 million pounds. The important piece of art is reported to have remained in the Althorp estate for around 200 years and once it goes into auction, it is expected to generate widespread attention. Another noteworthy item owned by the Spencer family which would be sold off includes a work by Baroque artist II Guercino named “King David” which is likely to fetch 5 to 6 million dollars.

Meanwhile, the Althorp estate is currently being restored with a whopping 10 million and the amount that is being fetched from the auction is expected to provide an impetus to the restoration work. Trustees of the estate have reportedly stated that the decision was taken to auction the ‘non-core’ items of the collection as the money would enable the estate to flourish for the future generations. The auctions are scheduled to take place in the month of July.
