Princess Diana’s ancestral home’s artworks to be auctioned

altrop London, Mar 31 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Christie’s auction house has confirmed that they are going to put some artworks from the ancestral house of Princess Diana on auction. They said that they are planning to auction off around $30 million worth of artworks that also include a Rubens portrait from the 17th century, which is valued at $18 million. This particular Ruben’s portrait is titled “Commander Being Armed for Battle”, and it has been in possession of the Spencer family since 1802. Other artworks that are going to be auctioned off, include a beautiful painting by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri.

Orlando Rock who is the director of the collections department at Christie’s, said the sales had been “carefully curated to ensure that the historic integrity of the 18th century collections at Althorp remain intact”. The auctions would be held in Christie on the 6th of July and the 8th of July 2010.

Princess Diana’s ancestral house is located at Northamptonshire, in central England. Althorp House is the ancestral home of the late princess, and currently her 45 years old brother Earl Charles Spencer resides there. Earl Charles Spencer has recently gotten engaged to Lady Bianca Eliot, and is about to get married for the third time. The late Princess Diana is also buried in the grounds of the family estate.
