Prince William headhunted to become SAS chiefDecember 16th, 2007 - 1:20 pm ICT by admin
London, Dec 16 (ANI): Prince William is being enlisted to become chief of the legendary British force, Special Air Service, (SAS), motto Who Dares Wins.
Senior officers in the special army regiment have offered the 25-year-old prince to take over as their new Colonel-in-Chief.
Sources say that the officers want to make William an honorary member of the unit, permitted to wear the SAS beige beret and cap badge for ceremonial occasions - but not its renowned wings symbol.
A senior military source said that the prince has already shown a dedicated interest in the secretive special force.
“His interest has not gone unnoticed and the offer has now been made. It’s known as the best job in the army and, if he wants it, it’s his, News of the World quoted the source, as saying.
The young royal has recently completed a year’s service with the Household Cavalry and is now on a familiarisation period with the navy and RAF.
Insiders say that Williams title of Colonel-in-Chief of the SAS could be extended to cover all British Special Forces.
“We would very much welcome HRH as Colonel-in-Chief. If it goes ahead an officer would be appointed as his equerry, a former officer now serving with the SAS Association said. (ANI)
