London, Jan 25 (IANS) British royal Prince Harry has broken up with his girlfriend Chelsy Davy after a five-year relationship, a newspaper reported Sunday.Harry, 24, who is third in line to the throne, and Chelsy, 23, split up three weeks after returning from a holiday at a luxury hotel resort on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.

The story, broken by the News of the World website, was confirmed by unnamed royal sources to other newspapers who said the separation was amicable and that they remained friends.

The couple had reached the stage in their careers where they might find themselves spending less time together, a source was quoted saying.

The News of the World said the initiative to end the relationship was taken by Davy, a Zimbabwe-born postgraduate law student at Leeds University.

It was not known what caused the break-up but friends of Chelsy blamed the time the pair spent apart and Harry’s “exuberant lifestyle”.

The royal commentator James Whitaker said: “Chelsy has behaved beautifully and has never let Prince Harry down in any way. She has got cross with him sometimes as he has not looked after her as well as he should have; he has left her waiting at railway stations and airports and has not been that courteous towards her. She has behaved impeccably.”
