Ottawa, Canada, Mar 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) President Barack Obama has lost to the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a bet regarding the 2010 Winter Olympics that were being held in Vancouver, in Canada. The President of the United States had wagered that the men’s ice hockey team of the United States would manage to beat the Canadian team. However, the United States lost to Canada 3-2. As part of his bargain, President Barack Obama sent to the Canadian Prime Minister two full cases of Molson Canadian beer. It has been reported that Prime Minister Stephen Harper would not be consuming all the beer by himself. Instead, he would be gifting both the crates to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The entire pack of the Molson Canadian beer that was delivered to the residence of the Canadian Prime Minister consisted of 24 bottles of the beer. The delivery was made by David Jacobson, the Ambassador of the United States to Ottawa in Canada. The President of the United States also good-naturedly threw in a bottle of the Yuengling into the gift pack, although that was not included in the wager. In fact, that is the brand that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper would have been sending to the American President had the latter won the wager.
While delivering the two cases of the beer, David Jacobson commented on the great sporting spirit and the sportsmanship of the Canadian athletes, and also congratulated the country on having hosted the Winter Olympics so resplendently. Stephen Harper also applauded the athletes and the visitors of the United States, saying that they are always the ones never to go back on their words and making good their promises.
