Prakash upsets top seed in Aptos Challenger

Aptos (California), July 17 (IANS) India’s Prakash Amritraj started from where he left, upsetting top seed American Amer Delic in the opening round of $75,000 Aptos Challenger tennis tournament. Prakash, who reached the final of Hall of Fame Tennis Championship last week, shocked the 143rd ranked Delic 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in their second Challenger meeting, here Wedensday. The two had met in a Texan Challenger in 2003 where Delic had beaten Prakash in three sets.

Prakash, a semi-finalist here last year, in the second round will face American wild card holder Phillip Simmonds who defeated veteran Cecil Mamiit from the Philippines 6-3, 7-5.
