Prachanda blames Terai parties for delay in Government formation in NepalJuly 1st, 2008 - 2:03 pm ICT by ANI
Kathmandu, July 1 (ANI): Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has blamed the Terai-based parties for the delay in the formation of a new government by obstructing the Constituent Assembly (CA) proceedings in Nepal.
Nepalnews quoted Prachanda as saying that the Terai-based parties have obstructed the proceedings of the Constituent Assembly (CA) for three straight days demanding that the constitution amendment bill tabled in the CA should address the issues raised by them.
Prachanda said that the political parties are currently engaged in homework to form the new government in a week’s time.
The Maoist Chairman also said that immediately after forming a new government under its leadership his party would pursue big projects and come up with attractive programs so that the people would immediately start to feel the transformation that has occurred in Nepal.
Prachanda however added that there are plans to cut down the size of both the Maoist People’s Liberation Army and the Nepal Army which he referred to as a national army.
“There is no need to have over 50,000 soldiers in the Nepal national army,” he said.
The Terai-based parties on Monday obstructed the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting for the fourth time, demanding constitutional guarantee for an ‘autonomous Madhesh province’.
The protesting Constituent Assembly members said they would not allow the Assembly to take up its normal business unless the Government comes up with a new Constitutional amendment bill by incorporating the issues raised by them. (ANI)
