Powerful quake strikes off Bali island
February 12th, 2010 - 3:26 am ICT by IANSJakarta, Feb 12 (IANS) An undersea earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck off Indonesia’s Bali island Friday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.
The quake occurred at 1.43 a.m., at a depth of 10 km under the seabed, 210 km southwest of Bali, an official of the agency told Xinhua on phone. No tsunami warning was issued.
Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called the “Pacific Ring of Fire”.
