Rome, Mar 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Pope Benedict XVI is going through a bad phase with the Vatican coming under media glare for its lenient handling of the sex abuse cases slapped against some priests working under it over the years. The Pope on his Palm Sunday speech said that he will not bow down to such allegations which are false and demean the stature of Vatican. He also added in his speech that the almighty has instilled the required will power in him to stand up to such gross allegations. He did not explicitly mention the child abuse charges slapped against some priests that he dealt with while he functioned as Munich’s Archbishop several years back. The Palm Sunday marks a major festival for the devout Catholics and it also paves the way for the Easter Sunday and Good Friday.
The Vatican officials have been active in their efforts to cover the pope from the charges of negligence against him for treating the accused priests. They also say that the Pope himself denounces child abuse by churchmen strongly and he met some such people two years back in the USA. The media entities are not ready to buy this argument though. They are citing the example of Father Peter Hullermann who was allegedly allowed to resume his duties even after being accused of pedophilia. The scandal has spread across various circles and Vatican ifs feeling the heat.
The Vatican is against the view that celibacy may lead to the cases of child molestation by priests. The pope, on the contrary, feels it is nothing short of a gift from the god.
