Warsaw, May 23 (IANS) A Polish man has been arrested for the murder of his Indian wife who had been missing for a week and whose body was found buried in the garden of their home near Krakow. The body of 27-year-old Joonaki Sinha Plesniak was found Thursday by police.
Joonaki had been married to 36-year-old Plesniak for four years and leaves behind a three-year-old son. The couple met when she was in the US and had been staying in Krakow for the last year.
The murder came to light when Joonaki’s sister and her father reported the matter to the Indian Embassy here a few days ago, leading to a massive investigation.
While it is not unusual for Indian men to marry Polish women, it is rare to see an Indian woman married to a Polish man.
According to Jayanti Hazra de Varion, an Indian woman married to a former Polish ambassador to Britain: “Only three Indian women are married to Poles.”
Expressing her shock at the Joonaki’s death, Jayanti told IANS: “What has happened is very sad and will give a very wrong message to the international community about Polish men.”
