Raipur, Aug 11 (IANS) The Chhattisgarh police late Monday evening busted a Maoist insurgent training camp in state’s southern forested region and killed at least three rebels, a senior police officer said. “We raided a training camp of insurgents at Awapalli forest area in Dantewada district and killed three ultras who were in Maoist uniform,” Girdhari Nayak, additional director general of police, told IANS.
He claimed the rebels suffered more casualties but only three bodies were recovered from the gun-battle site.
He said about a dozen armed rebels, who escaped police attack, might have carried their colleagues’ bodies into nearby forests.
Awapalli, some 500 km south of capital Raipur and close to Andhra Pradesh border, is considered Maoist stronghold.
