The shooting took place at 11:40 in the morning on Manton Avenue, located south of Burbank Boulevard. As police searched for the suspect, the students who were locked down inside the classroom following the alleged shooting finally reunited with their parents.
School Police Chief Steve Zipperman reported that 8-year veteran Officer Jeff Stenroos approached a suspect northeast of El Camino Real High School. He went on to say that the suspect was known through a phone call. This suspect was about to break into some cars as reported by Steve Zipperman. He said that as the suspect was confronted, a shooting took place on the encounter in which Officer Jeff Stenroos got hit in his chest for once. Since the officer was wearing the ballistic armor, his life was saved, said the School Police Chief. The colleagues of the officer are very thankful that the bullet-proof vest saved his life. Steve Zipperman said that normally Officer Jeff Stenroos worked in Cleveland High School, in Resada, but was on his duty at El Camino Real only yesterday.
On being taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Jeff Stenroos he was reported to be “a lucky man” by Dr. Stephen Jones.
