Police dogs to patrol Beijing streets
September 12th, 2011 - 5:06 am ICT by IANSBeijing, Sep 12 (IANS) The police in Beijing have decided to use dogs for patrolling streets following a successful trial in July-August that saw a significant drop in the city’s crime rate, a media report said.
Over 100 dogs and 65 trainers took part in it which saw the crime rate decreased by 12.6 percent from a year earlier, China Daily reported Sunday.
There are about 500 police dogs in Beijing, mainly used in criminal investigations and drug inspections. By the end of next year, their numbers are expected to reach 1,000.
