Los Angeles, Nov 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Los Angeles police arrested several protesters on Monday after the expiration of the deadline for the Occupy LA protesters to vacate their camp in front of the City Hall. A showdown loomed between the protesters and the police as they despised an eviction notice to vacate their camp.

About 1,000 protesters got into a standoff with the police on Monday as the officers moved in the clear the camp with force. The protesters formed human shield and they sought to block the police from getting to the camping site at the City Hall.

Before the police crackdown, the officers issued an order for the protesters to evacuate the streets. That seemed to have worked because several of the protesters complied and left the street but a sizable others stayed behind and dared the police.

The LAPD says they are currently concentrating on getting the protesters off the street. They plan to get to the City Hall after clearing the road for the morning commuters.

Speaking on the loudspeaker, the police told the protesters that, “It is not our intent to clear the park at this time. It is only our intent to clear the street. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.”

Several protesters joined the camp at the expiry of the deadline on Monday.
