PML-N may quit cabinet over judges restoration issueApril 22nd, 2008 - 11:09 am ICT by admin
Lahore, Apr 22 (ANI): Not even a month has passed since the new PPP-PML-N coalition government assumed office in Islamabad that the relations between the two coalition partners have started turning sour.
If a private TV channel report in Pakistan is to be believed, the PML-N has decided to quit all federal ministries if the deadlock with the PPP over the restoration of the sacked judges persists.
The decision came after PML-N leader Nawaz Sharifs meeting with the leaders of his party on Monday night, the Daily Times quoted the TV channel report as saying.
However, said the TV report, the PML-N would to continue to support the PPP even after resigning from the federal cabinet.
Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani of the PPP had taken oath of office and secrecy on March 25, after the country witnessed a fractured verdict in the February 18 elections. The PPP and PML-N are the two major players in the coalition government.
While the PML-N has been demanding the restoration of judges of the Supreme Court, including the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Choudhary, the PPP is treading a cautious path and does not appear to be in haste. PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari has often expressed his unhappiness at the judges, who, he says, showed no mercy towards him when he was facing jail sentences over corruption charges. (ANI)
