Plane with William, Kate in runway scare

London, Feb 12 (IANS) Prince William and his wife Kate had the scare of their lives after a plane carrying them narrowly avoided colliding with another aircraft which had not cleared a runway, a media report said Sunday.
Passengers on the 162-seat Airbus A320-200, flying the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge into London from Copenhagen, were “very frightened” after the pilot had to climb up quickly to avoid crashing into another plane, the Daily Mail reported.
Though no was was hurt, both William and Kate were “deeply unsettled” by the incident.
British Airways admitted one of their pilots was forced to perform the mid-air manoeuvre during the flight Nov 2, but dismissed the incident as “standard procedure”, the daily said.
“Our crew were told by air traffic control to perform a go-around — a perfectly standard operation with no safety implications — because an aircraft from another airline hadn’t fully cleared the runway,” a spokesperson said.
The British royal family did not make any comment on the report.
