Plane with 21 on board crashes in Argentina (Lead)
May 19th, 2011 - 11:29 am ICT by IANSBuenos Aires, May 19 (IANS) A small plane with 21 people on board crashed in Argentina’s southern Rio Negro province Wednesday. It remains unclear whether there are any survivors, media reports said.
The plane operated by the regional Sol airline was flying from the southern city of Neuquento to Comodoro Rivadavia Wednesday night, an airline official said.
Xinhua said that there were no reports on the fate of the 18 passengers and three crew
members on the Saab 340 plane.
It sent out a distress signal to the control tower before crashing near Prahuaniyeu in Rio Negro province at around 10 p.m.
Locals told police that they saw a fireball when the plane crashed.
