Plan to question Brit kids about their sexuality slammed
March 28th, 2011 - 6:52 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar 28 (ANI): A “sinister” plan to quiz 11-year-old children in Britain if they are straight, gay or bisexual has caused fury.
The state’s equalities watchdog says a child’s sexuality should be questioned in case they could be victims of discrimination, the Daily Express reported.
Those working with young people in schools, healthcare and youth services are being advised to set up pilot studies to monitor adolescent sexual orientation and not dismiss gay feelings as “a passing phase”.
Although the Equality and Human Rights Commission should tell children about the nature of the survey, parental consent is not always necessary.
The paper advocates asking children at 11 because some “question their orientation as early as eight and may begin to identify as LGB (lesbian, gay, bisexual) from early adolescence”. (ANI)
