Pirates seize Chinese cargo ship in Indian Ocean
October 20th, 2009 - 3:07 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Brussels, Oct 20 (IANS) A Chinese cargo ship called De Xin Hai was seized Monday by pirates in the Indian Ocean, an official said.
The ship with 25 Chinese crews on board was hijacked 550 nautical miles northeast of the Seychelles and 700 nautical miles off the east coast of Somalia, Xinhua reported.
The ship has been located but it is not clear where the vessel is heading, said John Harbour, spokesperson of the European Union (EU) naval force.
He said the EU NAVFOR Maritine Patrol Aircraft has located the ship with pirates on board. Some small boats presumed to belong to the pirates were also seen.
